Sandals were the first crafted footware. Every ancient civilization seems to have had its own version of the basic design: a stiff sole fitted with straps. As early as 3500 BC. the Egyptians made imprints of their feet in wet sand, molded braided papyrus into soles the same size and attached raw hide thongs to keep them on the foot.




After having gone out of fashion for almost 1000 years, the sandal made a come back in the 1920s.
