GAME PLAN: DAY ELEVEN

Overview:

-watch the video of The Wave

-stop periodically through the film to critically evaluate the messages being portrayed

Objectives:

-to use the film as an alternative text

-to ask the students to utilize their media literacy skills to evaluate the film and its uses of stereotypes, objectives, and purpose

-to prepare students for their persuasive reviews in their newspaper projects

Rationale:

We plan on watching the film The Wave in order to provide an alternative text for the students to compare and contrast the methods and themes emphasized in both the texts. We also feel that by asking students to practice their media literacy skills they will be able to utilize them to make good decision both inside and outside of the classroom. By making students aware that movies, books, and other forms of literature are often based on stereoptypes and the author's perception of the "truth," we hope to encourage our students to question and analyze the various media they come into contact with on a daily basis.

Resources:

-playbooks

-movie: The Wave

-TV, VCR

Layout and Activities:
