BACKGROUND

The following unit has been developed for an eleventh grade college prepatory class. This unit has been designed to be implemented into North East High School in North East, Pennsylvania. The school serves a community of predominantly white middle class students. Although we had this school in mind when creating our lesson plan, we made a conscious effort to insure that this unit could be utilized in diverse school districts.

This nine week unit plan will be introduced in the third quarter of the year. The students in our class have had experience with team huddles, pre-game warm-ups, playbooks, Literature Circles, and season flashback folders. Our students have also had experience conducting research in a variety of ways, such as through the library, internet, surveys, and through community out-reach.

The basic outline of the unit is broken up into three sections. Throughout each of the sections, we will address a form of Grande persuasion and also a form of persuasion that we interact with on a daily basis. The basic outline is as follows:
