GOALS/OBJECTIVES

*To introduce the play Macbeth.

*To explore the time when this play was authored opposed to Shakespeare's other works.

*To create a through understanding of the characters in the play.

*An in depth discussion of the characters in the play and how their personality traits impact their identities, which affect their outcome in the play.

*To investigate the principal location of the play and the relevance of location on society's standard of living.

 

ACTIVITIES

*Introductory lecture on the time period when this play was written.

*Distribution and discussion of the following handouts: H-6-H-7.

*Ask students to analyze the map of Macbeth and examine the principal locations of the play opposed to the locations of today.

*To create a discussion through the time line of the importance of the time period and how they believe it will affect the play.

*An in-depth evaluation of Macbeth characters-including predictions and possible outcomes of characters based on their brief descriptions and portraits.

*A brief video of the opening witches scene to augment interest and curiosity to the student's initial reading of the play.

*H-7 Principal Locations of Macbeth

*Macbeth video (the opening witches scene- Act I, scene i-Orson Welles' 1948 film version).

 

OUTSIDE ASSIGNMENT

*Read Act I of the play.

*Begin writing your word journal by noting common words you recognize as you read the first act.

*Bring in a brief list of common words that you find to tomorrow's class.
