GOALS/OBJECTIVES
*To provide a concrete understanding of the first scene the students have read for today.
*In depth discussion of the characters, setting, and plot of the first scene.
*Where does the scene take place and what is the weather like?
*Discussion and interpretations of Duncan and Macbeth's behavior
*To analyze the pronouncement Duncan makes at the end of the scene.
*Playing an audio recording as students read along in their books will allow them to format their own opinions and concerns of the character's actions.
ACTIVITIES
*Play a recording of 1.1 and 1.2, and ask students to read along in their books as they listen to it.
*Cast individual parts to the students and then read the scene aloud, the same scene they have just listened to.
*An open discussion, in which the students who are not cast in roles, give their interpretation of how the students will portray their assigned roles (after hearing the audio).
*Addition of questions to the student's as they read pertaining to setting, plot, and the character's behavior (to keep the discussion crisp and engaging).
*Discussion of list of common words they will incorporate into their word journals as they read the play (announcement of rewards for students who come the closest to common word total at the conclusion of the play.)
MATERIALS/RESOURCES
*H-8 Word count, meanings and usage will not be handed out, but held up by the teacher to serve as a motivational tool for completed word journals.
*Audio recordings of Act I, specifically scenes 1.1 and 1.2.
OUSIDE ASSIGNMENT
*Read Act II for Thursday.
*Be conscious of the seduction scene (1.7) for discussion for tomorrow.
*Continue to work on your word journals as you read the play.
