GOALS/OBJECTIVES

*To summarize the previous lessons on the history and culture.

*To provide students with an understanding of this era through the creation of a newspaper discovering visual designs of written communication.

*Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of the content and context of Macbeth.

*Work collaboratively to produce a written/visual document.

 

ACTIVITIES

*Introduce the project by displaying samples of newspapers and Shakespearean artifacts (Globe Theatre models, Elizabethan maps, etc.).

*Spend the remaining class period at the school library/media center to gather collections of Renaissance art and architecture, biographies, music, history books, and anthologies of Renaissance literature.

*The students will be asked to create a specific newspaper section (lifestyles, business, local news, entertainment, etc.).

*An investigation and discussion of items found pertaining to Macbeth (characters, gender, race, class, critiques, etc.).

*The class will be assigned roles such as artists/designers, proofreaders, and editors (department editors).

 

MATERIALS/RESOURCES

*School library/media center staff for assistance.

*Newspaper materials (markers, scissors, paste, rulers, etc.).

 

 

OUTSIDE ASSIGNMENT

*Bring in findings of Shakespeare in popular culture for tomorrow's class.
