GOALS/OBJECTIVES
*To provide group work in the "Seduction scene" in Macbeth.
*To do a thorough analysis of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the "Seduction scene."
*To involve students so they will willingly strive to get into the minds of the two principal characters.
*Incorporate the issue of gender roles in the scene, as well as in the classroom to enhance it's impact on the scene.
*To create an understanding of the motives of Macbeth, what obstacles lie in his way.
*To understand the motives of Lady Macbeth, what obstacles lie in her way.
ACTIVITIES
*A reading of 1.7 lines 29-96 several times.
*In the first reading, the females will read Lady Macbeth and the males will read Macbeth.
*A discussion involving the clarification of words, meanings, or phrases that are unfamiliar.
*For the second reading, there will be casting for Lady Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
*The rest of the class will be asked to act as student directors-the directors will be responsible for listening for objectives, plus the arguments used by the characters for their benefit.
*List these objectives and motives on the board after the reading.
*Divide the students into pairs-get them on their feet to read the scene one last time- tell them to keep in mind all the objectives and arguments.
*As the students read, circulate, encourage, and applaud.
*Watch a video of the seduction scene from Macbeth.
MATERIALS/RESOURCES
*Audio version of seduction scene (see list).
*Shakespeare's seduction scene in Macbeth.
OUTSIDE ASSIGNMENT
*Read Act III for tomorrow's class.
*Be aware of issues of race, class, and gender for discussion.
