TRUST

In the next paragraphs I will tell why I think trust is a big part in someones life. I think you need to trust in order to grow up. I found some quotes in the anthology Coming of Age that have to do with trust. I will associate the quotes that I found with trust. I also might have my opinion on the topic, and maybe a real life situation. That will mostly make up my paragraphs.

Out of the book Coming of Age one of the stories is "Teenage Wasteland", the story shows a lot of distrust between Donny and his mother. She is having a lot of problems with Donny, and I think she can not handle him. She does not have enough power to discipline him well. One reason I think that is because of a quote I found in this story. "And any time he went to a party they always telephoned first to see if adults will be supervising. "For Gods sake" he said "Don't you trust me?"

"It isn't a matter of trust, honey..." But there was no explaining to him." I think that everyone needs to have trust and distrust in their life. If you trust everyone you will never get along in the real life. You might get let down again and again, you could lose everything you ever wanted in life just by trusting everyone. I remember once my dad invited someone he just met to our church. He ended up steeling his watch and his checkbook. He took all the money out of the bank. The bank eventually found him and we got the money back. However we never could prove that he stole my dads watch. That paragraph clearly states how much distrust there is between Donny and his mother, and how it is not good to have to much trust.

There is another story that has to do with trust, it is called "Initiation." With this story the trust in it is not as obvious as in "Teenage Wasteland." This story is about a girl that wants to be a part of something. Her name is Millicent. She is chosen to be in a sorority club within the school. Her friends have to trust her so that she will not change to much and hang out with different people. Millicent also has to trust other people that they will not rat on her (tell on her). The sorority has strict rules, especial with talking to boys. This quote shows one instance when Herb wanted to talk to her. She does not know if he is serious or he is going to rat on her if she talks to him. "I know you can't talk to me," he said, very low, "But you're doing fine, the girls say. I even like your hair straight and all." The author does not tell you if he can be trusted of not. I think the author purposely did that to get you to think about if you would trust him or not. Again in another story we find another example of trust.

There is another story that I looked at in the Coming of Age book. The title is "Guess What? I Almost Kissed My Father Good night." In the beginning of this book, Mike the boy, found out that his dad was at the park when he should have been at work. Maybe he was waiting for someone. The quote I found helps show the distrust Mike is feeling and thinking. "And the first question came back to haunt me worst than before-what was he doing there, anyway, in the first place." After the park incident his dad starts acting very wired. In the end Mike finds a reasonable explanation for everything. At the end of the story he ends up actually trusting his father, even more than before. I think sometimes it is very hard to learn to trust someone. This paragraph is a good example of how one day you do not have much trust in a person and the next you trust in that person is more than before.

In the last paragraphs I talked about and compared trust with the anthology. I found a quote from each story. The quotes supported why I think trust is a big part in ones life. It is especial important you are growing and becoming an adult. Trust helps you get along with friends and have a good life. When you are growing up you need to be able to tell secrets and have good friends.
